Got Storage?

We need it!

We will be collecting items through the next several months, but we have one problem: We don’t have enough space to store everything we collect. Already, the one garage that was donated this year is filled to the rafters.

Do you have an empty garage, empty shed or empty storage unit that you might be willing to lend us until April 24? Any space in Del Ray or Old Town would be very much appreciated. Please spread the word about our need for storage space.

For more information, please call Lisa Guernsey Krupicka at 703-838—0280. The Big Flea is our school’s largest fundraiser, and the funds we raise are essential to making sure that the students at our school to have enrichment opportunities like afterschool clubs and field trips.

If we aren’t able to collect more Big Flea items, we won’t be able to hold a successful Big Flea. Please help if you can.

Check Out My Junk

Here are just a few of the items we collected at yesterday’s inaugural 2010 Big Flea Donation Day.  About 12 people came by with car trunks filled with goodies.  In addition to some nice furniture, we scored a sweet brand new adult bicycle, household items, electronics, and more.   So far we’ve raised $2,143 for the 2008 event.  Please contact Cynthia Webster to make a donation.

Big Money Opportunity! (No Whammies)

Jack Taylor has once again thrown down the challege.  He’s agreed to match dollar-for-dollar cash donations to the MV Big Flea, up to $500.

That means for every dollar we collect in the next week, we get another one thanks to Jack Taylor.  That’s 1,000 smackeroos!

Ummm….can you give?

Donations are tax-deductible 100% dedicated to educational improvement at the Mount Vernon Commnity School in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria.  We fund student class trips to Williamsburg, buy extra supplies for our teachers, and pay for after school clubs and extra help.

We need your help.  Really.

Please make an online donation through PayPal (to this escrow account: joseph.lamountain@gmail.com) or contact me.  Many thanks for your ongoing support of the Flea.

Professional Organizer? Get the Bug Instead!

According to my research, getting organized is one of the most common New Year’s Resolutions.  Some people recommend hiring a professional organizer to get the ball rolling, we have a much better solution: Get the Bug!

The Bug, of course, is the MV Big Flea and we can solve all your clutter conundrums.  Do you have a box CDs you no longer need?  Or a bicycle the kids have grown out of?  Maybe some second-tier wedding gifts or “family heirlooms” just taking up space? We’ll gladly take them off your hands.

This Saturday, January 16, we’ll our third “donation drop off” event from 2-4pm at 409 E Alexandria Avenue in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria.  Just come by with your items, preferably in a box, and we’ll store them until the April 24, 2010 event.

In the last three years we’ve raised nearly $40,000 through the sale of donated merchandise.  By donating your items, you can help us fund important educational programs for Alexandria public school students.

We will host Donation Days throughout the winter and spring.  For more details about donating to the event, or for more information, please contact our Curator Cynthia Webster at cynwebster@earthlink.net or 703.549.3501.
