Final Shop N Drop this Saturday!

Another enigmatic and alluring donation.

This is it, folks, the very last weekend before the Flea. And there is still time on Saturday to drop off donations at our warehouse, at 3815 Mt. Vernon Ave., between 2 and 4 p.m. If you can’t make it down, we’ll come pick up your stuff: Hit us at mvbigfleadonations@gmail.com. There are only a few things we can’t take. Also at the Shop N Drop you’ll have an opportunity to buy raffle tickets for the Flea Car, a lovely VW somethingorother that Paul Moniz has buffed into a showpiece that will enliven your drivin’ and get your neighbors talking should you be lucky enough to win it.

We still have volunteer spots available for set up on Friday, May 4, and for general Flea-ing on Saturday, May 5. Sign up here.

Don’t forget the Duncan Library’s Book Sale

The Big Flea can’t sell books. It’s nothing personal: There are some real literate types organizing the Flea this year. So we’re relieved to point anyone who wants to pick up some sweet reads to the Friends of Duncan Library‘s Book and Media Sale, which starts at the library next Thursday, May 3.

There’s a special preview night for members of Friends of Duncan Library on Wednesday, May 2, from 7-9 p.m., and you can buy a membership at the door.

The sale’s regular dates are May 3, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; May 4, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; May 5, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. May 5 is the same day as the Big Flea, and it’ll offer even more fun for kids at the Fleantertainment Complex that day: The Great Zucchini, subject of the greatest profile ever written, will perform at the library at 11 a.m. More info about the sale is on Del Ray Patch.

Last Shop N Drop this Saturday! Bust out those antiques!

If you’ve been waiting to donate to the Big Flea, wait no longer! The very last Shop N Drop is this Saturday, April 28, from 2-4 p.m. at our warehouse space at 3815 Mt. Vernon Ave.

(Of course you can always arrange a pickup: Email us and we’ll send a team of ruthlessly efficient Del Ray types to your residence instead)

We can take most things (there are only a few categories of items we can’t sell). Today, I’m writing to ask for your antiques. Are there things in your house you kinda hate but are being held in place by guilt and/or inertia? Would knowing that the proceeds from selling them will go entirely to benefit Mount Vernon Community School’s PTA get them unstuck? We can find a new home for your great-aunt’s sideboard, your mother’s china, or the family Christmas-tree stand you replaced with a superior plastic model years ago. Throw them in the car and head down Saturday! We’ll even help unpack.

Also, we still have volunteer spots available for both Friday, May 4, and Saturday, May 5: The day of the Big Flea! Sign up here.

Penultimate Shop N Drop today!

3815 Mt. Vernon Ave., 2-4 p.m. After today’s Shop N Drop, you’ll have one more chance next Saturday to haul your donations down to our warehouse space. Or if that’s not convenient, we’ll come to you! Just email mvbigfleadonations@gmail.com and we’ll send a smiling crew of Del Raysers to your house to pick up your stuff (just check our donation guidelines here).

Also! We are looking for volunteers for the Big Day on May 5, as well as an army of people to help set up on May 4. Just click this handy link to volunteer your time. There are T-shirts involved…

Finally, just a note on the Flea Car: There are only 500 raffle tickets available for this beauty, at $10 apiece. Someone is going to be tooling around the neighborhood in a car they got for less than it costs to take the fam to Five Guys! And like the proceeds from the Flea itself, all the money raised by the raffle will benefit the Mount Vernon Community School PTA. Come see the car at the Shop N Drop, and good luck!

You will not believe how good the Big Flea Car is looking

Paul Moniz has buffed, shined, and otherwise elbow-greased the Big Flea Car, which we’ll raffle off May 5 at the big event, into this thing of beauty. This car is a true Cinderella story — maybe it can become the chariot that spirits you away to a life of marvel? Come to Saturday’s Shop N Drop, at 3815 Mt. Vernon Ave. from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and see it for yourself.

Spring Break can’t stop the Shop N Drop!

This Saturday, we’ll still be collecting donations and selling stuff at our warehouse at 3815 Mt. Vernon Ave from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Some amazing donations, like this shoe-store fixture (just add a Brannock device and you’re in business!) have been coming in lately, but we’re still hoping to get more stuff, and we’ll take almost anything. Remember, all the proceeds from the Big Flea go to support PTA programs at Mount Vernon Community School. If you can’t make it down, we can arrange to pick up your donations, too; just email mvbigfleadonations@gmail.com. Or if you feel like shopping at home, check out our Craigslist offerings.
